Caregiveroncall.com is the brainchild of an entrepreneur who in 2004 saw the need for a social network for one of the most important jobs; that of being a caregiver.  Caregiveroncall.com is a place where caregivers can join to help balance work, family and friends while caring for a loved one.   

Melissa Rowley had a successful career in information technology until she received an emergency call from her mother with not so good news; her father fell and fractured a vertebra.  Ask any caregiver and they will agree that when one becomes a caregiver, it is literally overnight and without warning.  Melissa’s experience was no different and with some additional challenges; she lived 350 miles away.  This life altering experience changed her career path forever.  Initially, the task at hand was to grasp what caused this fall in the first place which meant starting from scratch.  As time went on, she started keeping meticulous journals and notes of his medications and allergies.  As she dealt with inefficient and uncompassionate physicians, medications being dispensed to her father with known allergies, she found the journal had become a power advocate in her fight for better healthcare.  Throughout the many visits to doctor’s offices, several physicians favorably commented on the completeness of her father’s medical information.  After hearing repeatedly what an advantage it would be for every patient to have such accessible, comprehensive information, Melissa began to explore the best way to convert a health journal in an electronic version for other caregivers. She used her decades of technology experience and co-founded Mar’age which develops customized personal health records for corporations with wellness initiatives, PBMs and other opportunities where engaging one with their own health is a priority. 

Caregiveronall.com, a Mar’age company was created to fulfill a desperate need.  Her father was not healing properly, and she wanted to investigate why.  Turning to the internet, she spent countless hours trying to research where to turn based on his symptoms with no avail.  Ironically, she was watching a tv commercial featuring a man by the name of Bob Fowler who was shuffling across the floor just like her father.  That commercial could have featured her own father as Bob Fowler’s symptoms were identical; NPH!  Excited, but scared at the same time, she turned to the internet again to find out what Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus was all about.  At that moment she knew there needed to be a place for others, specifically caregivers to connect about a specific disease or condition. Hence, Caregiveroncall.com was born to be an on-line support site available 24/7.  Today, when a caregiver joins caregiveroncall.com a link to download a complimentary copy of the personal health record; The Caregiver Journal is made available. Melissa is a strong supporter of caregivers because it is one of the most stressful and thankless (but rewarding) jobs, and The Caregiver Journal can be an advocate for any caregiver.
